A gadget is a device designed for a specific purpose. They are usually little ones or laptops, tools in the day-to-day and technologically advanced. From a smartphone to a sports monitoring bracelet type wearable, there is a lot of variety and uses that we can give them.

In the case at hand, the gadgets in the medical sector are always oriented, as we said, to facilitate the work of the physician in different ways. They are not designed to replace the medical equipment that health centers or hospitals make available to the doctor, but rather they are a complement to help him in his tasks.

All the gadgets that we will present below are approved by the FDA. Let’s see some examples:

AccuVein

One of the most frequent tasks in a hospital or health center is blood collection and other types of punctures. Depending on the patient, it is not always easy to find the exact place where it should be performed.

AccuVein, is a device that allows us to obtain a vasculature map subcutaneous infrared and in real-time, showing the patient’s veins in a simple way in case the doctor has to perform a puncture of some kind. AccuVein will save us time and effort trying to find the precise point to puncture.

The precision of the device makes it possible to detect veins the thickness of a human hair. It weighs just 275 grams, is very easy to clean, and is about the size of a remote control.

Buzzy

In pediatrics, professionals must often deal with the fear that a puncture can pose for the young patient. Either because of the possible pain, it can cause or because of the aversion to the puncture, it is a situation that is often not easy to handle.

Buzzy is a small device that allows performing punctures, whether vaccines or blood draws, so painless. This is achieved by a system that combines vibration with the application of cold in the area where the puncture will be made. Despite being aimed at younger patients, it can also be used in adults.

Designed in the shape of a nice bee, which is completed when the wings are placed, which is where the bag with an ice pack is located, it is through the cold and vibrations that the sensation of the prick is less painful or even non-existent.

Vscan

Vscan It is a portable ultrasound device the size of a mobile phone. Allows you to perform ultrasounds easily and anywhere thanks to its volume and ease of use. In addition, it offers an image quality similar to that of an ultrasound console.

It has multiple possibilities, either for emergency units or for health centers, and for different specialties such as those of the abdominal field, cardiac (adult and pediatric), urological, fetal Y obstetrics, pediatric, and thoracic / pleura. The ability to be able to perform ultrasound scans quickly can help clinicians to improve your diagnoses and perform them faster beyond your query.

In addition to performing ultrasounds, it also has voice recording to add audio notes, a connection to the PC to download the data obtained, and a battery lasting approximately one hour.

It consists of the main console, where we will see the image and data, and the transducer, which we will move to perform the ultrasound. It weighs 500 grams and, as we mentioned, the console is not bigger than a mobile phone.

Vittal Drone

Currently, applications are being sought for drones, small unmanned vehicles that move through the sky controlled remotely. Vittal Drone, It is a drone that serves ambulance mode in cases of cardiorespiratory arrest thanks to carrying a small defibrillator.

Response time in a cardiorespiratory arrest situation is essential, and despite the fact that it is increasingly common to find defibrillation equipment in many public places or sports venues, there are situations in which the only option is the ambulance. Vittal Dron aims to solve the problem of response time through the drone, which can access different places and heights without encountering the problem of traffic or crowds of people.

The drone will carry a small DEA team (Automatic External Defibrillator) that you will drop once you reach your destination so that it can be used quickly.

Oto

Otoscopes are medical instruments used to perform inspections on the external outer canal and eardrum. By means of a beam of light and a magnifying glass inserted in the head, an inspection of the areas described above can be carried out.

Oto It is a gadget that replaces the otoscope. This device can be attached to the iPhone camera (it is designed for this type of terminal), it has a part with the same funnel shape as the head of a traditional otoscope that would be the part that we would insert into the ear to inspect it, and the main difference is that we would see the images on the phone screen.

Through the application, which we can download in the App Store, and which works together, we can save the results and images that we obtain.

HÜD

HÜD It is a device that we can attach to our smartphone (currently it has an iPhone 7 case where it can be attached easily) to use it as a dermatoscope. A dermatoscope is a medical tool used to perform skin analysis on different marks and spots on the skin.

This small device works in conjunction with several applications developed by the creators of HÜD, to store the results and compare the evolution, send it to the medical team, learn about skin pathologies such as cancer, etc.

These applications are Dermlite X, to capture, organize, analyze and share the photographs that we have taken of our skin; Dermilite, for medical professionals; and First Derm, the application that allows us to obtain information about skin cancer, which reminds us to check the spots on our skin periodically and to send the images we have taken to a dermatologist for their professional opinion.

Of course, there are other technological tools that many health professionals use on a daily basis, such as smartphones and tablets. It is thanks to these devices that we can use the different Applications that we will show in the next point so, although we have focused on other types of gadgets, and that their use is very widespread, it should be remembered that they would also be part of the equipment that a doctor could use to be more efficient in their work.
