Does the banana get fat? How many calories does it provide?

If there is a tremendously nutritious fruit, which in addition to being delicious provides many health benefits and properties, there is no doubt that the banana stands out as one of them. However, it is also true that it is a portion of food about which many myths and beliefs are wrong.

One of the most common has to do with the calories of the banana, and more specifically, whether the banana is fattening or not, and whether it is a fruit that can be consumed in slimming diets.

The most common myth says that the banana is not only fattening but also that it is not suitable in slimming diets precisely because of its high caloric contribution. However, did you know that this is a popular misconception? Here’s why.

Why it’s a myth to think that the banana is fattening

Many people, who love and enjoy both the taste and the texture of the banana, tend not to eat it or reduce their consumption because they think it is a fattening fruit, and especially tend to eliminate it from their diet if they also follow a slimming diet. In this way, most of the benefits that this fruit offers us are underestimated, which are also many.

However, if you’re passionate about bananas and on a weight loss diet, you’re probably surprised to find that if you think this fruit is fattening, in a sense you’re wrong.

Why? Because various scientific studies have shown the absolute opposite: the banana is not only not fattening, but can also help you to lose weight.

This was confirmed by a study published in a specialized media in which it was discovered that we are in front of fruit with great satiating power.

In this sense, a study published some time ago in a specialized magazine, discovered that the unripe banana is a food extremely rich in water and fiber, and also has a low glycemic index, so it provides greater satiety, so they tend to consume fewer calories after taking it.

In addition, we should mention a scientific study carried out by the University of Massachusetts, which compared the consumption of bananas and other fruits in slimming diets. It confirmed that bananas produce greater satiety, especially compared to other fruits, so they are ideal in reduced-calorie diets.

Therefore, contrary to what is thought, the banana is a food that is not fattening, and is also suitable in slimming diets.

How many calories does the banana provide?

Bananas tend to be thought of as a high-calorie food, precisely because of the very fact that they are not thought of as a fruit suitable for slimming diets.

However, did you know that a banana provides fewer calories than an avocado? For example, a banana contains only 105 calories. However, persimmon has a higher calorie content (127 kcal per 100 grams), and avocado, in particular, provides 322 calories.

In other words, while 100 grams of bananas provide 89 calories, 1 banana has 105 calories.
